Book Description
The Spirit of the Soil challenges environmentalists to think more deeply and creatively about agriculture. Paul B. Thompson identifies four `worldviews' which tackle agricultural ethics according to different philosophical priorities; productionism, stewardship, economics and holism. He examines current issues such as the use of pesticides and biotechnology from these ethical perspectives. This book achieves an open-ended account of sustainability designed to minimise hubris and help us to recapture the spirit of the soil.

The Clear Light

The Clear Light PDF Author: Steve Taylor
Publisher: New World Library
ISBN: 1608687120
Category : Body, Mind & Spirit
Languages : en
Pages : 140
Book Description
As Eckhart Tolle has written, poetry "has been recognized since ancient times as a highly appropriate medium for the expression and transmission of spiritual truth." The Clear Light is Steve Taylor's latest contribution to this poetic tradition, offering short and powerful reflections as a guide to spiritual awakening and as experiential glimpses of the state of enlightenment itself. Taylor ranges widely, through subjects including "Making the Human Race Whole," "Freedom from the Past," and "The Reality of Connection," always in clear and simple language. Best of all, he reminds us of the choices we always have when life feels chaotic and overwhelming: empathy, acceptance, and love. Soothing but also challenging, Taylor's words continually affirm the profound bedrock of peace and even joy in the present that is always available. The book's eponymous reflection says it best: There is nothing that can't be undone no past injury that can't be healed no past mistake that can't be corrected in the clear light of the present. Reading this book is a transformational spiritual experience in itself.

Languages : en
Pages : 1003
Book Description
★ABOUT THE BOOK: Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering (Geo technical Engineering) is a fast developing branch of Civil Engineering and its study is essential for the successful execution and maintenance of several civil engineering works. The subject of Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering forms a part of the curriculum for the students of Civil Engineering. A good text book for the subject is therefore necessary to facilitate proper comprehension of the subject by the students. There are several books available on the subject Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering, but the author feels that each of the available books is lacking in one respect or the other. As such none of the available books on the subject is complete in all respects. The author has therefore made an earnest attempt to bring out a book on the subject which may be reckoned as a complete text book in all respects. The text of the book has been divided in two Parts. The Part I deals with the Fundamental Principles of Soil Mechanics. The Part II deals with the Earth Retaining Structures and Foundation Engineering. The subject matter has been presented in a simple unambiguous language which is easy to comprehend. The book covers the syllabus of this subject prescribed by the most of the Indian Universities for the undergraduate courses. ★OUTSTANDING FEATURES : The text has been divided into 2 parts:- (i) Fundamental principles of soil mechanics (ii) Earth retaining Structures & Foundation Engg. The text has been supported by-: (i) Illustrative Examples. (ii) Multiple Choice Ques. (Provided in Appendix) (iii) Competitive Examination Ques. Fo -Eng. Thermodynamics of Soil Nutrient Bioavailability

Thermodynamics of Soil Nutrient Bioavailability PDF Author: Kodoth Prabhakaran Nair
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030768171
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 88
Book Description
This book focusses on the thermodynamics of soil nutrient bioavailability, and in particular the most important plant nutrients such as, phosphorus and potassium, among major nutrients, and zinc among micronutrients. It proposes a paradigm shift in the approach to global soil testing procedures. Historically, soil testing has been used to quantify availability of essential plant nutrients to field-grown crops. However, contemporary soil tests are based on philosophies and procedures developed several decades ago, without significant changes in their general approach. For a soil test to be accurate, one needs to clearly understand the physico-chemico-physiological processes at the soil-root interface and, an understanding of soils and plant root systems as polycationic systems is essential. It is this knowledge that leads to sound prescriptive soil nutrient management inasmuch as soil nutrient bioavailability vis-à-vis fertilizer application is concerned, because, of all the factors which govern sustainability in crop production, the nutrient factor is the most important, yet, it is also least resilient to management. This book provides a clear scientific basis of the thermodynamics of soil nutrient bio availability, which routine soil testing does not provide
